Halloween Costume Time

Every year at about this time, I have to start thinking about what Halloween costumes I am going to create for my kids. Things have been getting a little tricky the last few years because now I have teenagers, a middle-schooler, and an elementary age kiddo. Over the years, I have really tried to be creative and try to make as much of the costumes as I can. My parents were always really good about coming up with really neat costumes for my siblings and me to wear. My mother was a good seamstress, and sometimes my dad would help out too. In the past, I have made a lady bug, a strawberry, a mummy, a witch,  a mermaid, a very scary scarecrow, and one year I made pirate costumes for all six of us and the dog! I have a great collection of stuff to choose from, so I am often able to reuse, and mix and match. Some of the costumes are from when I was a kid. My mom saved so much of that stuff. I love to use it--it brings back good memories!  I'm not sure what the girls are going to want to be this year. I am considering having a party/bonfire for the older kids so they have something to dress up for. I know there are many people who think Halloween should not be celebrated. I think my own church even frowns upon it and tries to counteract the activities with having a party for kids to dress up like Bible characters. I can't really get into that, and I am sure God won't mind us dressing up is crazy costumes and having fun one night of the year. I was considering selling some of my costumes on eBay to try to get a little extra money, but it is so hard to part with some of the things I put so much work into. I also think that it would be cool if my girls would use some of my creations with their kids like I am doing with the stuff my mom made. Ahhh, good times!
